Fact #1

The cost of electricity derived from renewable sources such as solar cells and wind turbines is rapidly falling and is nearly the same as that derived from coal. See more details at https://www.eia.gov/electricity/

Fact #2

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is an abundant resource. In the United States alone, we generate 5 billion metric tons ( 1 ton ~ 1000 kilogram ~ 2000 lbs) of CO2 every year, approximately half of which comes from stationary and concentrated sources such as a power plant

Fact #3

co2_spec1.png

Carbon dioxide (CO2) can be converted into over 15 different useful chemicals and fuels such as ethylene (to make plastics) or methane (for heating and transportation) – it depends on the identity of the catalyst you use. This reaction has been studied since the 1980’s but is not yet as economical. It is currently cheaper to make the same chemicals (methane, ethylene) from crude oil, but more research can change that!
